Kona Coffee
The kona coffee is the one which a special of it’s
kind. It is grown only in one place in the world.
The word kona coffe
has come into existence as these coffees are grown in the island of
Hawaii on the kona coast. There are very limited kona farms in this
island. But there is a difference between one Kona coffee and the other
one.
These are one of the rarest coffees found in the
world. And is one of the top grades in the world of coffee also. These
coffees are found on the coffee trees of Hualalai and Mauna Loa
Mountains which are rich in volcanic soil and afternoons are covered
with cloud. It has a unique environment which has a certain advantage
over other coffee growers in other parts of the world. The coffee trees
bloom after kona’s dry winters and are harvested in autumn.
The coffee picked are so carefully graded that only
5% - 10% are graded of the total kona coffee harvest. These coffees are
roasted in such a way that it is referred as an art form by many in the
trade. Dark roasts are called French roast, Italian or Espresso. Medium
roasts include full city and Vienna.
If one wants to buy 100% pure kona coffee than one
has to check the label with the word Kona Blend which means that it only
contains 10% kona beans.These 10% beans are mixed with the beans of
Africa, Indonesia, Brazil and Central America.
These kona coffe are made from the peaberry.A kona
coffee is termed as original only when it is Peaberry grade and is very
high in demand and it naturally occurs when to halves fuse together
resulting in a more concentrated flavor.
The varieties of kona coffee are the Kona Coffee
special, the extra fancy, peaberry grade, decaffeinated, and the green
beans kona coffee.
